Patrick Riordan – Dec. 6

Patrick “Buddy” Riordan, 86, of Pelham Manor, New York, passed away on December 6th, 2022. He was born October 5, 1936.

Born in New York, NY to Patrick Riordan and Bridget Hynes, Buddy was the oldest of their four children.  Raised in the Clason Point section of the Bronx, Buddy would frequently tell stories of the shenanigans he, his brother, and his lifelong friends would get into.  Buddy graduated from St. Helena High School, class of 1955.  He enlisted in the US Army in 1956 and after serving his time, he sat for the FDNY exam in 1961.  Out of the 60,000 applicants, Buddy was selected to the first class of 1962, known as the “Cream of the Crop”, which consisted of the top 200 applicants.  He loved his job and served as a firefighter for 29 years.  It was during this time that Buddy met the love of his life, Nydia, at Orchard Beach.  Buddy was instantly smitten.  They would go on to get married on October 27th, 1973.  They were married for forty-nine years and raised two sons together in Pelham Manor, NY.

Buddy treasured spending time surrounded by his family and friends, especially his beloved grandkids.  He also enjoyed the brotherhood of the FDNY, the beach, fishing, boating, car shows, gardening, nature, skiing, politics, and traveling.  Dessert also held a very special place in his heart.  Anyone that knew him would speak very highly of him as a good natured, gentle man with a great sense of humor.

Buddy is survived by his wife Nydia, his two boys and their wives; Shawn and Daniele of Yorktown Heights, NY and Matthew and Theresa of Middetown, NJ, and his seven grandchildren; Madison, Kaitlyn, Hailey, Mia, Christopher, Juliette, and Graham.  He is also survived by his brother Thomas Riordan of Mahopac, NY, and sisters Eileen Riordan and Kathleen Husted, both of The Villages, Florida.
