PMHS girls bowling places third in inaugural season
The PMHS girls varsity bowling team placed third in the league after a successful inaugural season.
The first-timers finished the season with an eye-popping record of 11-1.
The enthusiastic group of girls took a chance on the sport, interested in trying something new and being a part of the beginning of bowling as part PMHS athletics. The girls faced a variety of neighboring high schools such as Scarsdale, Mamaroneck and New Rochelle.
“I originally joined the team so I could bowl with friends, but then I became very competitive about it, and I really started to love bowling and challenging myself,” said senior Vica Fair.
Coach April Clapp, who also coaches varsity field hockey, transformed the rookie team into a group that stood in contention for first place.
“The team did a really good job regardless if they won or not,” said Clapp. “They did better than all the other schools expected them to do, especially with something brand new to them. A lot of the girls didn’t even know how to bowl coming into this, so I brought my own stuff a couple of times to bowl alongside them.”
As for next season, the team will be graduating most of its players. But Clapp said she hopes to continue the team’s success into the coming years and expand the program.
