Joan Considine – Feb. 18

Joan Cahill Considine of Larchmont, formerly of Pelham Manor, New York, passed away suddenly on February 18th, 2023. She was 72 years old. Born on April 4, 1950 in Manhattan to Edward and Rosemary Cahill, Joan was the oldest of three children. She was raised in the Bronx before moving to Yonkers where she attended St Barnabas Grammar School and St Barnabas High School. Both St. Barnabas School and St. Barnabas Church was a very special place for Joan as it was during her years as a secretary at St. Barnabas Church she would meet her husband Martin who was the Sacristan of the church.

After graduating high school Joan would further her education at Mercy College. She graduated with a degree in education in 1972. It was that same year Joan would marry her husband of 50 years, Martin Considine. Joan worked briefly in public education before a lifelong career in the insurance industry. The couple lived in Pelham Manor most of their life where they were blessed with their wonderful daughter Elizabeth. Joan and Martin were members of the Pelham Country Club where they both played golf together regularly. She had a green thumb and loved traveling. She loved Paris, London, her time at the Sydney Olympics, dressing up and traveling to the Kentucky Derby and the Masters Tournament. If Joan was not traveling or playing golf you could find her at a concert or spending time with family. Despite all her interests and activities, she was family focused and was proud of her career where she serviced her clients with highest regard, working at Marsh McLennan for over 35 years. Joan was also a 9/11 survivor, having worked in the World Trade Center.

Joan will be remembered as quiet, attentive to detail and a very focused person. She was generous when it came to helping others and gave full commitment to everything she did. Joan was a thoughtful leader and a relentless advocate for doing what was honest and right. She proudly volunteered her time on the boards of the Pelham Country Club and the Visiting Nurse Services in Westchester. Although she gave a lot to others she always made sure she put her family first. Joan loved hosting the holiday dinners, spending time with family, especially her grandson Rory whom she loved and adored as well as walking her dogs.

Joan is survived by her husband Martin, her daughter Elizabeth (Shawn) O’Connor and her grandson Rory. Joan will also be missed by her two brothers; Robert and Edward Cahill, his wife Lynn and their three children Lindsey (Shon), Mackenzie (Jeff) and Edward (Rajaa). Joan will be missed by her extended family, friends and everyone who knew her.

A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham New York on Thursday February 23rd from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Friday February 24th at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla New York.
