The Town of Pelham Democratic Committee sponsored a contest for kids at their Wolfs Walk 2018 table. Children 10 and under were asked to answer the question, “Why is it important for grownups to vote?” All the contestants gave excellent answers, reflecting impressive civic awareness.

Jonah Frey, 8, a third grader at Thornton Donovan School, was awarded the top prize, a $30 gift certificate at Double Rainbow, for his response: “It’s important for grownups to vote because it’s important to have a say in what’s happening and who’s being in charge.”

Runner-up Lexi Cullen, 7 (or as Lexi emphasizes, 7 “and a HALF”), in 2ndgrade at Colonial, was awarded a $10 gift certificate at Double Rainbow. Her impassioned answer included, “It’s important for grown-ups to vote because if you didn’t, it wouldn’t be fair… some people don’t always get who they want but they at least have rights to…vote.”
