Iona University education students recently visited Hutchinson School on a field trip to learn about how the classroom environment can be a tool for learning. Dr. Trisha Fitzgerald, Principal of Hutchinson School, and Alicia DelMastro, Instructional Technology Specialist, facilitated a workshop to show them how the learning environment is a flexible space and how to consider it when designing instruction. The EDU 202 students then toured Hutchinson classrooms and participated in a Q&A with Dr. Fitzgerald and Mrs. DelMastro so that the students could then implement this idea into a lesson that they were designing for their class project.
Hutchinson School, which opened in 2021, is fully outfitted with flexible furniture and innovative learning designs. This approach has been part of the District’s Strategic Plan and is being systematically introduced across the District.
Please learn more about the Iona students’ visit to Hutchinson in the University’s Education Department Newsletter.
