Os Clavelitos graced Pelham residents with Brazilian-styled compositions Saturday during the first Summer Sundown Concert at Wolfs Lane Park. Cantina Lobos offered special drinks for the concertgoers, and DaniLee’s Helping Hands assisted in keeping children entertained.
Os Clavelitos is a band based in New York City that focuses on original music combining traditional Brazilian rhythms—samba, baiao, bossa nova and frevo—with English lyrics.
“The people are very nice here,” said lead singer Atlanta Amado. “It’s like a breath of fresh air.”
“Purifier,” the band’s closing song of the night, is an original song written by bass player Dan Kendall.
“‘Purifier’ is a love song,” said Kendall. “Musically, it all occurred to me one morning. It was partly inspired by a dog I had a lot of affection for at the time.”
“It’s considered a samba-disco but still maintains the Brazilian feel we perform,” said guitarist Anthony Lanni.
Francile Albright Mullen, chairwoman of the Village of Pelham Council on the Arts, which puts on the concerts, said that the council finds bands like Os Clavelitos for the Summer Sundown series through existing connections or Google research.
Three more shows remain following this concert.
