Patrick William Vance, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 24, 2024 at his home in Pelham, NY, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Patrick was born on July 7, 1940, in Morristown, NJ, to William Vance and Catherine (Anderson) Vance. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Blazier.
He was a longtime resident of Pelham, NY. He was a graduate of Bayley-Ellard Regional High School in Madison, NJ, and attended St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, NJ.
Patrick served at the New York Times for 34 years as Deputy Editor of the NYT News Service, and Director of Special Projects of the NYT Times Syndicate. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army Chemical Corps, where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan from 1962-1965. He was proud of his affiliation with the American Legion Post 50, Pelham, NY, and the Pelham Civic Association.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed his friends in Pelham, and particularly loved meeting his family and friends at the New York Athletic Club, at both clubhouses in Pelham and New York City. His kindness and generosity to those he loved, and his sense of humor, will never be forgotten.
Patrick is survived by his son, Douglas P. Vance (Caitlin Badeaux Vance), who resides in New Orleans, LA, his daughter, Emily Vance (Jeff Cramer), who resides in Sonoma, CA, and his three grandchildren, Connor Vance (5 years old), Elodie Vance (3 years old), and Alice Cramer (5 years old). He is also survived by Dr. Connie Vance, his ex-wife and friend.
He will be greatly missed, but his love, memories, and legacy will continue.
