Tuesday, August 27th 2024 Pelham Manor Police Benevolent Association spearheaded a true community-wide clean-up effort at the Hutchinson River Parkway Overpass at Secor Lane and Timpson Street including securing a permit to beautify the area with the New York State Department of Transportation, clean-up and restoration painting of the underpass.
Village of Pelham Manor, Pelham Manor Department of Public Works, Environmental Coalition of the Pelhams (EcoPel), Pelham Girl Scouts Troop 2617 Silver Award Team “Girl Scouts Plant Pelham Native” along with community volunteers collaborated to plant aRoadside Wildlife Habitat along Timpson Street. Tai Montanarella of EcoPel offered hands-on education, guidance and expertise teaching volunteers how to properly plant seedlings and discussed the benefits of utilizing roadsides to add habitat that supports pollinators and other ecosystem functions in our community.
Pelham Girl Scouts Evangelina Bellettieri, Jillian Caufield, Abigail Hambright and Laila Sakhrani spoke briefly of the native plant species added to this area including bare-root rosa virginiana, silky dogwood, ninebark and highbush cranberry seedlings grown by the Department of Conservation Saratoga Tree Nursery.
This effort is a wonderful depiction of the Village of Pelham Manor, Pelham Community Organizations and Pelham Manor residents’ collaborative community-focused partnerships.
