Pelham, NY – Scouts in Pelham’s Boy Scout Troop 1 had an unforgettable summer filled with adventure, learning, and camaraderie. The troop embarked on a series of exciting activities that not only challenged their skills but also strengthened their bonds.
The highlight of the summer was the annual week-long camp at Camp Read in the Adirondacks. 24 Scouts and 8 parent volunteers participated in various activities and earned merit badges in archery, lifesaving, and wilderness survival, among others. They also competed in the Scout triathlon, showcasing their physical endurance and teamwork. The evenings were spent around campfires, sharing stories and enjoying the serene surroundings. The scouts also added a touch of excitement to their camp experience by attending the legendary Painted Pony rodeo in Lake George, NY and whitewater rafting down the Sacandaga River.
In addition to summer camp, a group of 12 scouts and 4 parents traveled to the BSA’s Northern Tier High Adventure camp in Ely, MN where they embarked on an adventurous journey through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area between Minnesota and Canada. They spent a week canoeing and portaging through the wilderness, experiencing the beauty and challenges of nature firsthand. This trip was a testament to their resilience and teamwork, as they navigated through the waters and carried their gear across portages.
The summer adventures of Pelham Troop 1 have left lasting memories and valuable life lessons for all participants. The scouts are looking forward to more exciting activities and opportunities to grow and learn together.
