PELHAM, NY. This October, Pelham Art Center will serve up an exciting lineup of community programming for the entire family. The first is a weekend’s worth of events being held in conjunction with New Rochelle Council of the Arts’ ArtsFest 2024. On Saturday, Oct. 19 from 1-3pm, Artist Club members Kalin Monet, Allison Ciampi, Carol Herd-Rodriguez, and Susan Nathenson will lecture about their artwork and creative processes. An interactive craft will be offered alongside the lectures to engage artists of all ages.
On Sunday, Oct. 20, the New Rochelle-based Songcatchers will perform at 12:30pm in PAC’s Courtyard. Learn more about the group, which offers affordable access to high-quality music education, training and enrichment for children and families here.
ArtsFest is organized by the non-profit New Rochelle Council on the Arts (NRCA) to celebrate the diversity of arts and artists on a local level, and will take place between October 17-20 at various locations throughout New Rochelle and Pelham (a full schedule of events can be found here.)
Pelham Art Center invites the community to participate in the creation of a collaborative Ofrenda as part of its El Dia los Muertos festivities
Then, on October 27 from 1-3pm, Pelham Art Center will host a Folk Art celebration of the festive Mexican tradition of El Dia los Muertos, or “Day of the Dead,” in which deceased loved ones are remembered with joy and celebration. Renowned artist Zafiro Romero-Acevedo will return to PAC to share the history of one of Mexico’s richest cultural traditions. The afternoon will also feature a live musical performance from Mariachi Artístico, free children’s workshops, and traditional Mexican crafts for sale.
In advance of the Day of the Dead festivities, PAC is inviting the public to contribute to its community Ofrenda with mementos of deceased family and friends (including pets!). To learn more about how to participate in this traditional element of El Dia los Muertos, visit the Pelham Art Center website.
