With Early Voting currently underway, and Election Day approaching on November 5, it’s imperative to remember to flip your ballot and vote for the propositions on the back. Residents of Pelham or Pelham Manor will see either two or three ballot propositions, and the Town of Pelham Democratic Committee strongly urges a ‘YES’ vote on all three:
Proposition 1: Amendment to Protect Against Unequal Treatment (NYS ERA)
Vote: YES.
This proposal aims to add legal protections for all New Yorkers in the state constitution to safeguard human rights and, crucially, reproductive rights. In light of the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade, this initiative is more urgent than ever.
Proposition 2: Should individuals serving in the position of Westchester County Legislator serve four-year terms instead of two-year terms?
Vote: YES.
Passing this proposal will allow legislators to focus on meaningful policy-making rather than constant campaigning, reducing costs for candidates and taxpayers alike, while empowering elected officials to address community needs more effectively.
Proposition 3: Shall the General Village Election of the Village of Pelham Manor be held annually on the Tuesday next succeeding the first Monday in November and be conducted by the Westchester County Board of Elections? (Moving Manor Village Election Day from March to November)
Vote: YES.
Voting YES for this change will boost voter turnout. We will gain access to in-person early voting and make it easier for more neighbors to vote by aligning local elections with other elections that take place in November when people are already used to voting. By entrusting Westchester County with election oversight, we ensure that professional bipartisan election officials manage the process, enhancing transparency and integrity. Moreover, eliminating the March election will save Pelham Manor at least $10,000 each year, funds that can be redirected toward vital local projects such as flood mitigation and addressing crime.
On November 5th, turn your ballot over and vote YES on Propositions 1, 2 and 3. Rally your friends, family and neighbors to do the same, and together we can build a stronger, more engaged community.
