PELHAM MANOR, New York – After a robust grassroots-inspired campaign, voters in Pelham Manor approved Proposition 3, the ballot initiative that moves village elections to November, under the oversight and administration of the bipartisan Westchester County Board of Elections.
With a near-record turnout of 3,230 neighbors, Prop 3 was approved by 54% of voters. By moving village elections to November, we will now have the benefit of early voting, making it easier for all Manor residents to participate in the electoral process.
Erica Winter, a leading organizer for the proposition said, “Pelham Manor’s message is clear: We believe in full voter participation. Moving village elections to November empowers all our neighbors to have a voice in our local issues. Making voting more accessible and convenient makes our Village government more representative and accountable.”
The success of Prop 3 reflects strong community support for this initiative. The Village’s rejection of the petition to place the proposition on the ballot led it to pursue a costly legal battle, ultimately resulting in two courts ruling in favor of the referendum. It was the community’s determination that ensured voters had the opportunity to decide.
According to Pelham Manor resident Steve Salee, “At a time of great political division, Pelham Manor is demonstrating its belief in our community by inviting every voter across the political spectrum to have a seat at the table. Making it easier to participate in our local government will help make Pelham Manor stronger.”
Our community faces significant challenges, from addressing flood prevention to responding to rising concerns about safety. Yet, by facing these challenges together, as a united community, we can be confident that Pelham Manor’s best days remain ahead.
The approval of Prop 3 means that the next Village Elections will be held in November 2025, rather than March. At that time, three positions, including mayor, will be up for election.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our neighbors who advocated for this change and participated in the democratic process.
