National signing day has been a longstanding tradition across the country for soon-to-be college athletes, and this tradition was continued in Pelham. On Nov. 13, senior student-athletes Charlotte Marion, Alle Hughes, Taylor Green and Lila Resnick signed letters of commitment. The event, held in the Pelham Middle School gym, allowed family, friends and fellow athletes to watch the four officially commit to their respective Division I collegiate programs. The students were honored for the hard work and dedication that led to their officially becoming college athletes.
Marion committed to women’s lacrosse at the University of Long Island, Hughes to women’s soccer at Lafayette College, Green to women’s lacrosse at Stonehill College and Resnick to rowing at the University of Texas.
“I feel an immense amount of pride for them,” said Athletic Director Joe Toombs. “I think it is amazing when any Pelham athletes are represented on college rosters.”
There was great excitement from the athletes as well.
“I’m overall so excited for college and to be able to play a sport as well!” said Marion. “I’m definitely most excited for meeting new people from all over but not being too far away from home.”
“Committing to Lafayette meant a lot to me,” said Hughes. “It was really the moment when I realized that all of the work that I put into training every day has paid off, which felt really good. The aspect of college soccer that I am most looking forward to is competing at a very competitive level in the Patriot League and being able to continue playing the sport I love every day at a high level.”
Resnick said, “I’m looking forward to a great team environment and competitive training at Texas! I’m super excited to continue rowing at such a great program.”
Signing day on Nov. 13 was for all Division I and Division II athletes nationally. There will be another in June commemorating all Pelham student athletes who will be playing at any other collegiate level, including club and Division III sports programs.
