Sock ‘n’ Buskin kicked off their production season strong with play “AND THEN THERE WERE NONE” by Agatha Christie, a compelling drama full of suspense all around.
“AND THEN THERE WERE NONE” follows 10 strangers who are invited onto an isolated island off the coast of England by a mysterious individual. Although none of these people have crossed paths before, they all discover that they were lured onto the island with the intent of receiving punishment for crimes they cannot be convicted of. One by one, each character is hunted down by a mysterious murderer (Jeremy Tam) who seeks justice.
“The mystery genre is my favorite genre of all. I like the fact that it makes you sit on the edge of your feet and do a lot of thinking about how the story is going to resolve. There are a lot of surprises in the play,” director Neil Shleifer said.
Directed by Schleifer and Thomas Beck, who worked meticulously alongside the cast and stage crew to construct a simple yet ominous scenery, the theater company put in their best efforts to capture the ideal experience for the audience.
“I loved doing the show,” said William Russello, who played the role of Fred Narracott. “More importantly, I loved doing the show alongside my peers.”
Towards the latter end of the show, the audience is given an opportunity to decipher whom they presume is the murderer. In the scene, the lights are dimmed to show the shadow of the remaining two characters.
“It’s always been a very fun and thoughtful experience,” stated Charlie Fanuele, who does lights for the show. “I met a lot of people I wouldn’t have met if I didn’t do it. Hard work pays off.”
