Pelham Memorial High School drama club Sock ‘n’ Buskin started off its production season strong last weekend with the play “And Then There None” by Agatha Christie, a compelling drama full of suspense.
The play follows 10 strangers who are invited onto an isolated island off the coast of England by a mysterious individual. Although none of these people have crossed paths before, they all discover that they were lured onto the island with the intent of receiving punishment for crimes for which they cannot be convicted. One by one, each character is hunted down by a mysterious murderer (Jeremy Tam) seeking justice.
“The mystery genre is my favorite genre of all,” said co-director Neil Schleifer. “I like the fact that it makes you sit on the edge of your seat and do a lot of thinking about how the story is going to resolve. There are a lot of surprises in the play,”
Directed by Schleifer and Thomas Beck, who worked meticulously alongside the cast and stage crew to construct a simple yet ominous set, the theater company put in their best efforts to capture the ideal experience for the audience.
“I loved doing the show,” said William Russello, who played the role of Fred Narracott. “More importantly, I loved doing the show alongside my peers.”
Toward the end of the show, the audience is given an opportunity to guess who they think the murderer is. In the scene, the lights are dimmed to show the shadow of the remaining two characters.
“It’s always been a very fun and thoughtful experience,” said Charlie Fanuele, who worked on lighting. “I met a lot of people I wouldn’t have met if I didn’t do it. Hard work pays off.”
