Pelham and Bronxville, NY – This December, The Picture House Regional Film Center is excited to introduce a new wellness initiative for seniors in partnership with the Thrive Studio in Pelham. This program will take place just before The Picture House’s popular Senior Cinema – free screenings on Tuesdays for moviegoers aged 65 and older – offering seniors a chance to relax and rejuvenate their bodies with a gentle Chair Yoga session before enjoying a film.
Schedule:
- First Tuesday of the month in Pelham (2:00 PM, before the 2:30 PM film)
- Second Tuesday of the month in Bronxville (2:00 PM, before the 2:30 PM film)
“By partnering with Thrive Studio, we’re excited to offer our senior community a unique opportunity to unwind, refresh, and connect before enjoying a film,” said Clayton Bushong, Executive Director of The Picture House Regional Film Center. “This program is a wonderful blend of wellness and cinema, and we can’t wait for our audiences to experience the benefits of Chair Yoga followed by the joy of watching a great movie together.”
Chair Yoga is a gentle practice designed specifically for seniors, making it accessible to participants of all mobility levels. Each session is conducted while seated, ensuring that everyone, regardless of fitness background or physical condition, can comfortably engage. Chair Yoga not only improves physical well-being but also supports mental clarity and fosters a sense of calm. By integrating mindful movement with focused breathwork, participants will elevate their mood and leave feeling refreshed and centered before settling in to enjoy a film.
Benefits of Chair Yoga:
- Increases circulation and invigorates the body
- Alleviates tension in the neck and shoulders
- Promotes emotional and physical balance, helping to reduce anxiety
- Enhances joint stability and support
- Cultivates mindfulness and presence through focused breathing techniques
