Editor’s note: This press release was provided by the Pelham Girl Scouts. The Pelham Examiner publishes press releases in the form received as a service to the community.
Pelham Girl Scouts Service Unit consists of over 325 K-12th grade Girl Scouts in Pelham, and over 100 adult volunteers!
Service Unit Managers, Stephanie Otero & Liselle Sakhrani, lead the hundreds to new heights every year.
In addition to the Service Unit Managers, Pelham Girl Scouts has a robust board that keeps this non-profit impacting as many girls as possible. This includes: Catherine “Annie” Fagbeyiro, Gabrielle Bellettieri, Jade-Snow Joachim, Jamie Porco Guglielmo, Diane Lanaro, Kathy Ellis, Stephanie Royce, Jill Kirby, Stacy Gatto, Amy Sparano- and MANY more leaders who volunteer endless hours to the betterment of our GS Troops in Pelham.
This last weekend, during the Chamber of Commerce’s Winter Wonderland community event, Pelham Girl Scouts had a booth, as well as a free craft table. Girl Scouts were selling the PGS hoodies, knit hats, and canvas tote bags, made by local business Logo Tags, as well as some GS books and camping supplies.
The free crafts were a huge hit for all of the community, not just Girl Scouts!
In addition to the sale, PGSs were collecting shelf stable food for HOPE Community Services and new socks for The Sharing Shelf. It is the Girl Scout way to always give back when we can, so all events and programs have a level of community service wrapped into them.
9th and 10th grade Girl Scouts from Troop 1561 volunteered for the entire event. Stephanie Otero, along with SU Treasurer, Annie Fagbeyiro, and SU Fundraising Chair, Stephanie Royce, completed the days volunteer team with the teens.
Right before the annual tree lighting on 5th ave, the Girl Scouts carol before the Pelham Larks perform, and Santa lights the tree. This community carolingĀ brings PGSs as young as 4, to as old as 15 together, with their families. With a mix of holiday, and traditional Girl Scout songs (ex: Brownie Smile, Make New Friends) everyone can follow along with theĀ song booklet. If a Scout is too young to read, an older GS is paired with her so she can follow her lead.
It is the truest example of small town holiday living when you stand around the tree and sing together!
The Pelham Girl Scouts are proud to foster volunteerism in our youth, and continue to partner with fellow nonprofits in Pelham, and Pelham businesses throughout the year.
Happy Holidays, from all of us at Pelham Girl Scouts
