As the holidays approach with a long two-week school break, here are five fun festive activities for Pelham families.
1. Westchester Winter Wonderland
Right next to the Kensico Dam in Valhalla, the Westchester Winter Wonderland drive-thru experience is a 1.2 mile arrangement of light displays. This year, there are several new additions, including a new character, the Ice Queen, who will be interacting with children of all ages from the Ice House, kept cool by the winter breeze. Other additions include a 125-foot pixel wall filled with thousands of lights that illuminates scenes of the winter night sky, and the OtoCast app that allows families to hear stories along the display route that surrounds the largest Christmas tree in Westchester. This experience also has special themed nights including a friendly and fun New Year’s Eve.
2. Cross County Center Ice Skating Rink
Cross County Shopping Center hosts a pop-up ice skating rink every winter from Nov. 14 to Jan. 5. It has a smooth surface that is perfect for first-time and younger skaters. Admission is $12 per person for one hour ice time and skates included. Cross County only takes credit or debit cards. Hours are on the website.
3. Photos with Santa
The Westchester Mall hosts plenty of Santa meet-and-greet experiences. The Santa Photo Experience is open from Dec. 6 to Dec. 24. Children will get one-on-one time with Santa Claus, while also taking a photo with him. Make sure to sign up to reserve a spot.
4. Holiday Ramble at the Picture House
The Holiday Ramble concert on Dec. 19 is making its return to the Picture House in Pelham. This second annual event is more than a concert—it’s a celebration of local artists, musicians and community holiday spirit.
5. Rockefeller Center
Finally, the classic holiday trip: Rockefeller Center in New York City. From shopping to ice skating to holiday dining, Rockefeller Center has it all. The whole family just has to take a short train ride to Grand Central Terminal or drive into the city to take part. There is something for everyone to enjoy. There is also the popular LEGO store, which hosts holiday events. One of these is the LEGOLAND Holiday Bricktacular. There is an event guide posted online for more information.
