The Pelham Memorial High School winter concerts are a staple of the holiday season for Pelham students.
This year, the orchestra performed “A Mad Russian’s Christmas,” which included percussion, bass, electric guitar and piano. The piece “Time” included piano, horns and electric guitar.
“I’m very pleased with the entirety of the PMHS 2024 winter string orchestra concert, and I am so proud of my students,” said Raffi Froundjian, the PMHS orchestra teacher. “It was a dream come true to teach my students to play ‘Time’ by Hans Zimmer. This piece of music is simple but focuses on textures and various types of instrumentation. Aidan Sinha helped me to arrange this piece over the last several months, and it was surreal to see this vision come to life.”
The jazz band, an audition-based performance group, played several selections, including “When the Saints Go Marching In” with soloist Grace Kiamie featured. The concert band ended that night with the wintry tune “Sleigh Ride.”
The chorus concert was directed by interim Choral Director William Stanley. The concert chorus sang various songs, finishing with “Hallelujah” as PMHS alumni joined in. The chamber chorus, also audition based, sang an arrangement of “Stand By Me” for Choral Director Maria Abeshouse, welcoming her return to PMHS.
