Rotary Club of the Pelhams recognized PMHS seniors Plum Durham and Malachy Pearlman as Marilyn Stiefvater Scholars of the Month for December.
Plum Durham is an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, a member of five honor societies, and an All-League Varsity Tennis player, as well as captain of the tennis team. She is a Regeneron Science Talent Search applicant, and has served as research assistant for professors at Columbia and McGill Universities. Plum is also the president of Pelham Eliminates Plastics, president of the Environmental Science Club, president of the Science National Honor Society, and a chair of the Women’s Empowerment Club. Plum also works at Cantina Lobos, tutors high school and elementary school students, and is an avid photographer.
Malachy Pearlman is a dedicated science research student and has placed second in the medicine and health category at the Regeneron Westchester Science & Engineering Fair in 2024 and first place in the engineering category at the Somers Regional Science fair in 2023. Last year, Malachy completed an internship for the ReconRegen Lab at Swansea University (in Wales) working in 3D modeling for facial reconstructive surgery. He also has created an app called Food Wise, which shows users personalized food allergy information at dining establishments. Malachy is also the co-founder and co-president of the Pelham Entrepreneurship Club, as well as a member of five honor societies. Malachy plays soccer and lacrosse.
The local Rotary club will be reviewing applications this spring for its annual $15,000 scholarship awarded to one graduating PMHS senior in June. All PMHS seniors are invited to apply, including Rotary Scholars of the Month.
