The high school and middle school were evacuated at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday morning due to an “unidentified odor” in the building, according to a text alert from the school district.
Students and staff were allowed to return to Pelham Memorial High School and Pelham Middle School at 10:09 a.m when the all clear was given by fire officials and Con Ed.
The incident started when high school classes in the science wing moved locations at 9:25 a.m. After that, both buildings were evacuated.
Fire fighters arrived at about 9:38 a.m., and some entered the building dressed in full gear through the Franklin Place entrance.
A Con Edison truck followed at 9:45 a.m.
PMS Principal Lynn Sabia confirmed over the loudspeaker that fire officials and Con Edison had cleared the school as safe to continue classes. After-school activities will continue as usual.
The school district email announcing the end of the evacuation did not state a cause for the odor.
