PELHAM, NY – June 3, 2025 – Putting the Scout Slogan “Do a Good Turn Daily” into action, Pelham Troop 1 recently dedicated their time and talents to give back to the communities that support them. Their latest community service effort saw ten Scouts, alongside adult leadership, undertake and complete a significant beautification project by revitalizing the public pathway leading to the Pelham Manor Fire Department, located on village property at the corner of Clay Avenue and Penfield Place. The Scouts’ efforts to enhance this public area began on Friday, May 23.
In coordination with local environmental group Ecopel and local business Manor Auto, the Scouts repointed the stone pathway, removed a thick layer of overgrown grass, and planted native Virginia roses. The success of this initiative was made possible through generous community support: Ecopel donated the drought-resistant, low-maintenance, and pollinator-friendly Virginia roses, while Manor Auto generously contributed to other essential materials for the project. With the final touches of mulching and edging now complete, the revitalized pathway and beautified area significantly enhance this important public space for everyone’s enjoyment. The project also expresses the troop’s appreciation for the dedicated firefighters.
“The Village of Pelham Manor is so thankful for the dedicated volunteers in our community who reach out and initiate community projects,” said Lindsay M. Luft, Pelham Manor Village Manager. “Their efforts truly make a difference and are greatly appreciated.”
The Pelham Manor Fire Department beautification is just one example of Troop 1’s ongoing commitment to service. Recently, Scouts have also extended their helping hands to elderly neighbors by assisting with yard work, volunteered with Ecopel on other environmental initiatives, and contributed their efforts to the Vine Squad, showcasing a broad dedication to the well-being and interconnectedness of the Pelham community.
Pelham Troop 1 believes in fostering a spirit of service and encourages community members who may need assistance with small projects or tasks to reach out. The Troop is happy to consider requests where their skills and Scout power can be of help.
