
Rotary Club of the Pelhams awarded its 2025 scholarship of $20,000 to graduating Pelham Memorial High School senior Shannon Winston.
“In addition to excelling academically as an honors student, Shannon is co-founder and co-president of the Women in STEM Club at PMHS for which she received national recognition,” the Rotary Scholarship Committee said in a statement.
“She also participates in Student Government, Spanish Club, the Gaelic League, Youth 2 Youth, and the Chemistry Club. Shannon plays Varsity Field Hockey, Varsity Lacrosse, and Varsity Track and Field and also plays on club teams in lacrosse and field hockey,” the statement added. “Shannon also is a competitive sailor as well as a sailboat racing instructor.”
Her non-school activities include heading Scholarship Fundraising for the Pelham Children’s Theater. She also volunteers at the Hope Soup Kitchen, the Hutchinson Elementary School Engineering Clinic, and as a peer tutor. Shannon also enjoys cooking and baking, and plays the trumpet.
The Rotary Scholarship Committee considers student applicants who not only excel in their academic endeavors and the exercise of their beliefs, but also share the Rotary’s commitment to the fostering of world peace, the encouragement of understanding, respect and cooperation among and between all peoples of the world
In addition to awarding the annual $20,000 Rotary Scholarship to a graduating PMHS senior, the local Rotary club honors PMHS Scholars of the Month during the school year.
The Rotary Scholarship is funded by donations from the 16 members of the local club as well as welcome donations from the community which can be made by visiting pelhamrotqry.com.
