Angela (Angie) Battaglia, of New Rochelle, NY, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in a small town in the mountains of Reggio, Calabria, Italy, to Antonio and Frances Cuzzocrea, she was one of 6 siblings. Angie spent her early years in Reggio attending local schools until the 5th grade.
At the age of 17, in 1964, Angie emigrated to the United States through Ellis Island and settled in Little Italy, Bronx, New York. She later moved to Pelham, NY, where she raised her two children, Joe and Anna. Angie worked as a seamstress at Brittany Fabrics Wolfs Lane in Pelham before launching her own business, Angie Decorators, where she decorated high end homes and businesses throughout the Tri-State area. In 1983, she moved to New Rochelle, where she continued to raise her family.
Angie had a true passion for cooking and was known for her delicious meals, especially during family holidays. All her children’s friends loved coming over to eat at her home. Her love for gardening was also evident, as she took great pride in growing beautiful flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Above all, she cherished spending time with her grandson, Marc Anthony, who brought her immense joy.
A woman of great strength, independence, and humor, Angie was hardworking and dedicated to her family. She embodied the true spirit of the American Dream, owning her own business and home while being a single mother. She always put her family first, making sure those around her knew they were loved.
Angela is survived by her son, Joe Battaglia, her daughter, Anna Battaglia Piliero, and her beloved grandson, Marc Anthony Piliero. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews and extended family in New York and Italy. Angela will be missed by everyone who knew her. She is predeceased by her granddaughter April Piliero.
A celebration of her life will be held at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY, on Wednesday, March 19th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Her burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery on Thursday, March 20th, at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
