It was the kind of call that must focus the attention of any firefighter: The Pelham Fire Department was rolling to a report of a “gas pump on fire.” But when Engine 5 and Ladder 2 arrived early Saturday morning, they found instead a car ablaze near the structure of the gas station at 50 Lincoln Avenue, according to the Facebook page of Pelham Professional Firefighters Local 2213

Firefighters made quick work of it, running a single hose and knocking down the fire five minutes after dispatch with no damage to the building or surrounding vehicles.

“Via security footage we were able to determine the vehicle was parked there eight minutes prior to our arrival, (and) the vehicle ignited four minutes after it was brought to the gas station,” said the post. “A thermal scan of the interior and exterior of the structure was done to ensure the fire did not spread into the structure.”

The department credited the caller for reporting the fire right away and the residents of an adjacent apartment building for evacuating themselves as a precaution.
