Hutchinson groundbreaking ceremony held indoors, still celebrates start for new school

Pelham Superintendent of Schools Dr. Cheryl Champ on Friday invited the architects and construction team for the new Hutchinson School, the Pelham Board of Education, Hutchinson students and staff and the Pelham community to witness the groundbreaking for the new school. Due to rain, much of the ceremony was moved inside the existing school.

Champ, Board of Education Vice President Jessica DeDomenico and Principal Trisha Fitzgerald gave brief remarks on the impact of Hutchinson on Pelham. Kim Scalisi, a Hutchinson alumnus, spoke about the affect the school had on her.

The fifth grade chorus sang the Hutchinson School alma mater to end the ceremony.

Following the ceremonial event, the contractors from Triton Construction Management will begin preparing the grounds of Hutchinson for construction.
