Pelham Manor police blotter: July 1-7
Sunday, July 1
12:50 a.m. – A resident of Esplanade called, reporting he had heard someone knock on the window of his residence and was concerned. Officers were dispatched; the residence and surrounding area were checked, yielding negative results, and all was in order.
2:41 p.m. – A woman on Boston Post Road called, reporting she was with an elderly woman who did not know where she was or how to get home. Officers arrived and observed the woman was just lost because of the construction detour. She was escorted and shown how to get to her destination.
5:01 p.m. – A resident of Bolton Road called, reporting a black Volkswagen with multiple occupants parked across the street. He stated he can see the driver attempting to inject himself with a needle. Officers were dispatched; upon approaching the vehicle, officers observed a rear passenger holding a used hypodermic needle in plain view. The rear passenger then attempted to hide the needle next to his right leg and proceeded to bend and break off the tip of the needle while in the vehicle. Officers observed the front passenger toss two glassine envelopes (weighing 0.2 grams each) of a tan powdery substance believed to be heroin out the front-passenger-side window. Officers also observed the vehicle to be littered with various drug paraphernalia. The three suspects in the vehicle were arrested and searched and processed, and another bag of heroin (weighing 0.7 grams) was found. The vehicle was impounded and the three suspects were released on $200 cash bail each and are due to appear in Pelham Town Court
10:09 p.m. – A 911 call was received from a resident of Boston Post Road, reporting that her daughter was having suicidal thoughts. Upon arrival, the mother presented text messages from her daughter, which stated she did not want to live anymore and had taken a bunch of pills. The daughter was transported to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital.
11:03 p.m. – A anonymous call was received, reporting a loud party in the area of Esplanade and Wolfs Lane. Officers were dispatched and reported the noise was coming from Mount Vernon in the area of Hutchinson Field. Mount Vernon Police Department was notified.
Monday, July 2
7:20 a.m. – An anonymous party called, reporting a loud noise on Garden Place. Upon officer arrival, the individual responsible was advised to wait until 8 a.m. to begin landscaping.
10:35 a.m. – A resident of Forest Road called, reporting a party with a gun banging on her door. She stated she took her children with her and locked herself in the basement. Upon arrival, officers parked nearby and proceeded on foot to the residence. The aforementioned party was located in a black car parked in the driveway of the house. He was removed from the vehicle at gunpoint, placed facedown on the ground, handcuffed and patted down. No firearms or weapons of any kind were found on his person, in his vehicle or in the immediate vicinity. He identified himself as a process server and stated he was there to serve a summons to the resident. A black clipboard with such paperwork was found in his car, corroborating his statements. The resident stated she saw video footage of him at her door on her phone via her camera/doorbell system, and he appeared to have a gun at his chest. Upon reviewing the video, she admitted that upon closer inspection the man did not have a gun, but a clipboard. She stated that when she glanced at the footage and the angle of the camera, she mistook the clipboard for a gun. The man was uncuffed, and the situation explained to him. The resident apologized to the man and officers for the mix-up and was subsequently served the summons.
Tuesday, July 3
5:42 a.m. – An officer reports that there are several photographs containing explicit images in front of an address on Hillcrest Drive in New Rochelle. The New Rochelle Police Department was notified and officers were sent to the scene.
11:53 a.m. – The building superintendent of a Boston Post Road building called and reported there was a possibly rabid raccoon in the rear yard of the building that he wanted disposed of. Upon arrival, officers observed a raccoon who was unable to walk and appeared to be ill. An officer fired two darts into the raccoon, and the raccoon was put down as a result of the dart poison. The darts were recovered, and the building superintendent then stated he would properly dispose of the raccoon.
11:02 p.m. – A woman called, reporting a suspicious vehicle near Wolfs Lane and Iden Avenue. She stated it was a dark-colored SUV with its hazard lights on. She then stated the driver put the hood down on the vehicle and proceeded to turn right onto Iden Avenue towards Carol Place. Officers were dispatched and report the area was canvassed with negative results.
11:05 p.m. – An officer observed a gray sedan with dark-tinted front windows stopped in the far corner of the Shell gas station and Pelham Manor Car Wash & Lube of 4391 Boston Post Road. As the officer drove into the station, the sedan began to drive away. The officer stopped the vehicle and noticed a strong smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The front passenger and registered owner of the vehicle admitted he’d just finished smoking a marijuana blunt and that there was marijuana in the vehicle. He then voluntarily handed over a clear plastic Ziploc bag containing a leafy substance believed to be marijuana and weighing 1.1 ounces. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed another clear Ziploc bag containing a leafy substance believed to be marijuana and weighing 2.68 ounces. The front passenger admitted all the marijuana was his and that it did not belong to the driver. He stated that the driver was driving because he had been drinking earlier that night and that she had permission to take custody of the vehicle. He was placed under arrest for criminal possession of marijuana in the fourth degree and taken to the police station. The driver was issued a summons for the front windows of the vehicle having tint that was too dark, and the passenger was released on $200 cash bail and due to appear in Pelham Town Court. The bags containing the alleged marijuana were secured into evidence.
Wednesday, July 4
2:06 p.m. – A resident of Esplanade called, reporting a family member had passed out and was now throwing up. Upon arrival, the family member was alert conscious and breathing. She stated she felt dizzy and passed out again. She was transported to Montefiore Moses Hospital in the Bronx.
8:50 p.m. – An officer was assisting with traffic congestion on Shore Road near the New York Athletic Club when he was approached by an anonymous female, reporting a vehicle had almost struck pedestrians crossing the street and was all over the road. She pointed the vehicle out, and the officer followed it and observed the vehicle failing to maintain its proper lane of traffic. The vehicle failed to pull over when the officer turned on his sirens and emergency lights. The officer did so again and directed the vehicle to pull over with the loudspeaker and eventually the vehicle slowed down and came to a stop. Upon approach, the officer detected a strong smell of alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle. The driver was observed to have glassy looking, bloodshot eyes, trouble understanding, confusion, slurred speech and was unable to follow directions. The front passenger stated they had been out at Rye Playland Beach and that the driver had “had a lot of vodka.” The driver failed all sections of the field sobriety test. A search of the car revealed an open 1.75 liter bottle of New Amsterdam vodka, a plastic container of marijuana in the driver’s side door and a plastic bag of marijuana in the center console. The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, an unregistered motor vehicle and a slew of other charges. A breath test revealed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.25%. He was released upon the posting of $200 cash bail.
Thursday, July 5
6:51 p.m. – An officer observed a vehicle run a stop sign near Pelhamdale Avenue and Black Street. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was found to have two separate license suspensions in New York State. He was arrested and later released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in Pelham Town Court. He was issued summonses for aggravated unlicensed driving and for disobeying a stop sign.
Friday, July 6
7:44 a.m. – The owner of Gourmet Express, located at 924 West Street, called to report a larceny of copper pipe. A man stated that while he was working on the roof, he saw a former employee walking away carrying a length of copper pipe. He stated that he got off the roof and told the suspect to stop walking, but he continued walking. The man then contacted the owner of Gourmet Express, who contacted PMPD. The area was canvassed with negative results. The owner said they did not know the suspect’s name, but would look through employment records to attempt to identify the individual and would notify the police if they found any information.
11:22 a.m. – A resident of Pelhamdale Avenue called, reporting suspicious persons on her property. The caller stated a man and a woman carrying tools were standing in her yard and she did not recognize them and was concerned. Officers were dispatched and reported the two people were from a survey company that was surveying property lines.
1:14 p.m. – A person walked in, reporting she had found a wallet at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Jackson Avenue on Thursday evening. The owner was notified, and he came in and picked up his wallet later in the day.
3:17 p.m. – A call was received reporting a landscaping crew near Oak Lane and Grant Avenue was using a gas-powered leaf blower. No violations were observed by officers, and the landscapers in the area were reminded of the leaf-blower policy.
4:29 p.m. – A resident of Witherbee Avenue called, reporting that she remotely watched male parties taking her patio table from her residence on her cameras. Officers were dispatched, and one of the men said they knew the resident. The resident stated the man was her neighbor and that he did have permission to take the table.
10:44 p.m. – A call was received reporting loud music near an address of Francis Street, possibly coming from Mount Vernon. Officers reported faint music coming from Mount Vernon, possibly from Hutchinson Field. The Mount Vernon Police Department was notified of the music.
Saturday, July 7
12:05 a.m. – A man called, reporting he was having difficulty exiting Glover Field due to the electronic gate being closed and requested assistance. Officers rendered assistance.
10:51 a.m. – A person walked into the police station to report a suspicious person. They stated an elderly male was walking southbound on Pelhamdale Avenue, approaching Shore Road. The individual was described as disheveled, possibly homeless and talking to himself. Officers canvassed the area and did not locate anyone matching the description.
3:37 p.m. – A man called, reporting an elderly male had passed out at Glover Field. Upon arrival, the man was conscious and breathing, but had recently fainted and fell. He was transported to Jacobi Medical Center.
9:06 p.m. – Officers responded to a report of customers leaving without paying their bills at Yumi Asian Bistro & Hibachi Steak House, located at 802 Pelham Parkway. Three people stated they had been eating together with three other friends when the waiter spilled drinks on the three other individuals, who subsequently got up and left without rendering any form of payment. The bill had been split into individual checks, and the three remaining individuals had all paid their bills. Depositions were completed, and the three unpaid receipts were placed into evidence.
