Scattered cards covered every surface at DaniLee’s Helping Hands on Feb. 14 as high school and elementary school students collaborated to create more than 100 Valentine’s Day cards.
Volunteers filled the cards with positive messages and colorful decorations to bring smiles to children’s faces.
The cards went to two different places, with one half sent to children who were victims of the Los Angeles fires and now live in shelters and trauma camps. The other half went to White Plains Hospital, in an initiative organized by the newly founded Create for Kids Club at Pelham Memorial High School.
The cards serve as one part of Pelham Together’s larger LA Fire relief initiative, which also includes collecting donations to support children, families and animals affected by the tragedy. Collections are going on through March 7.
Zoe Fellner, a junior at PMHS and founder of the Create for Kids Club, said her group “has already made a meaningful impact by spreading joy through art. Our Valentine’s card making drive allowed us to bring smiles to pediatric patients, showing that even small acts of creativity can make a big impact, especially during hard times.”
“We’re excited to continue growing and inspiring positivity,” she said. “With every card, we strive to bring joy, hope and a smile to those who need it most.”
