Punishing weather took a toll on Pelham over the July 4th weekend, and heavy rains forecast for today have already prompted an advisory from the National Weather Service about the potential for flooding in the area.

The heat wave of last Thursday and Friday, when local temperatures ranged from the high 90s to 100 degrees, led to local power outages. Once power had been restored, rough weather continued to wreak havoc in town, bringing down trees over the weekend and interfering with the traffic lights at the busy Four Corners intersection on Sunday.

In particular, a downed tree limb damaged the historic police booth at the intersection. Village of Pelham Mayor Jennifer Monachino Lapey issued a statement on the village’s website lamenting the damage and promising to do what she can to restore the historic structure.

The statement said: “Thank you for reaching out to the Village of Pelham Manor and to me personally about our historic Police Booth at Four Corners. It is simply heartbreaking to see the damage inflicted on this beloved structure. Four Corners holds a special place in our hearts and is critical to the vibrancy of Pelham Manor. Please know that the Village is committed to restoration efforts. Village Hall has just regained full power after operating with generator service this weekend, and Village Manager Lindsey Luft is working closely with Con Edison tree and wire crews to facilitate removal of the downed tree.
