Just before noon on Tuesday, the Village of Pelham Fire Department received a call reporting an odor of electrical burning near Rockwells. Moments later, after fire engines had been dispatched, a second 911 call reported a basement fire at 109 Wolfs Lane, the vacant storefront beside Tiso Appliances.
Over the next hour, Village of Pelham police blocked off that section of Wolfs Lane as firefighters swarmed into the area.
Upon entering the vacant storefront, firefighters “encountered smoke coming from the basement of the building,” according to Village of Pelham Fire Chief Robert Benkwitt. “In accordance with our structure fire response plan, the Pelham Manor Fire Department and Pelham EMS were requested to assist.”
“Using a thermal imaging camera, firefighters quickly located the source of the smoke, secured power to the building, and confirmed there was no extension beyond the area of origin. The incident was determined to be an electrical fire involving one of the building’s electrical panels,” said Benkwitt in a statement to the Pelham Examiner.
Several firefighters descended into the basement of 109 Wolfs Lane to put the fire out.
Benkwitt expressed thanks “to all responding agencies for their coordinated efforts in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion. All units were back in service by 12:53 p.m.”
