Pelham Manor police blotter: Aug. 15-22
Aug. 15
10:06 a.m. — A male party turned himself into the Pelham Manor Police Department on a bench warrant issued by the town of Pelham court judge. The man was searched and his property was secured in a property bag. The man was later released on his own recognition.
4:39 p.m. — The department received a 911 call from a party reporting that a man who appeared to be homeless was harassing a female customer at the Dollar Tree Store in Pelham Manor. Officers were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival an officer spoke with the victim who was carrying her three-month old child. The party stated that she had been exiting the store with her child while holding $14.00 in U.S. currency in her left hand. While exiting the store a middle-aged black male approached her and attempted to rip the money out of her hand. She yelled at the man, stating things like, “Get away from me I have a baby” and “Get away from me, I’ll call the police.” She then attempted to turn away from the man as a means of protecting her child. She stated that the male then grabbed her right arm in an attempt to get the money. Following this the woman reportedly ran into the store to ask for help. The officer also interviewed the store manager who stated that she ran outside when the female party entered the store screaming for help. She said that she had observed the male, whom she had seen in the area on numerous occasions, fleeing the area in the direction of the Chipotle. The woman stated that she often saw the man “harassing the customers” outside of the store. The woman stated that she then called 911. A subsequent canvass of the area yielded negative results. Security camera footage will be available for detective retrieval at a later date.
Aug. 16
9:22 a.m. — An officer was dispatched to a location on Boston Post Road regarding a motor vehicle accident with injury. Upon arrival the officer spoke with Driver 1 (D1), who stated that he was operating his vehicle when he was stopped at a traffic light headed westbound when he saw vehicle 2 roll out of the Shell gas station onto the Boston Post Road, colliding with his vehicle. The officer then spoke to D2 who stated that she was operating vehicle 2 when pulling up to the gas pump at the station when she fainted and fell out of her vehicle before putting it in park, resulting in a minor laceration to her left hand. D2 stated that her driver’s side door was open as the car rolled back, and struck a stanchion on the side of the gas pump. No property at the gas station was damaged. Medics arrived on scene, and the woman was transported to a hospital to aid her wound.
Aug. 17
9:16 a.m. — While on patrol an officer spotted a vehicle being operated by a suspect, heading eastbound on Boston Post Road. The vehicle was observed making an improper left turn onto Pelham Parkway, passing two vehicles on the left. The vehicle was stopped, and an e-justice report of the vehicle returned as revoked. The operator of the vehicle was placed under arrest and transported to the Pelham Manor Police headquarters without incident. Westchester collision was notified and the vehicle was impounded. The party was processed, photographed and ticketed for driving a vehicle with a suspended drivers license. The man was released on his own recognition and is due back in Pelham Town Court at a later date.
12:45 p.m. — Officers were dispatched to a location on Westward Lane on a report of larceny from a vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the complaining party who stated that around 12:30 p.m. he noticed that the driver door of his car was slightly ajar and the car had been searched through. The party stating that various possessions of his had been stolen including a laptop and a wallet, amounting to about $1,600 U.S. currency in lost property. The party was fairly sure that he had locked his car. A canvass of the surrounding area found surveillance camera footage from a nearby residence, which yielded negative results. Nothing further to report.
Aug. 19
2:38 p.m. — Officers responded to a call reporting a suspicious man ringing the doorbell, pulling on the door, looking through the windows, and walking around a residence on Secor Lane. Upon arrival the officers spoke with the reporting party, who stated that the person was a black male around the age of 18-25, wearing a black t-shirt with a white bird on the front, shorts, a black backpack, and a towel around his neck. The reporting party stated that her ring doorbell notified her and captured video surveillance of the suspected man knocking on doors and looking into the windows of her residence. The complaining party stated that she then saw on the ring surveillance, the man get into a black SUV after leaving her property. The officer then spoke with a neighbor of said residence who stated that he has a ring doorbell with video surveillance. After reviewing the video showed negative results for suspicious activity. Another officer saw the suspected man riding a bike on Colonial Avenue and Wolfs Lane, and notified the Pelham Manor Police Department. The man was transported to the headquarters for questioning, and was later released upon his own recognition.
4:28 p.m. — At approximately 4 p.m. two parties entered the police headquarters to report a robbery that has occurred in the past. One of the parties stated that on August 14 she had left her house to go on vacation, and she had given her brother her debit card to access her account while she was away. The second party, the first party’s brother, stated that on August 14 at around 5:45 p.m. to the citibank on Pelham Parkway to make a deposit into the ATM. After he had deposited the money, the man reportedly walked back to his vehicle when he was approached by an unknown black male. The party told the man that he only spoke spanish, and the man pulled out an IPhone 6 tin order to use google translate. The man told the party through google translate that he better follow instructions or he was going to be killed. The party entered the bank, deposited a check, and withdrew money from the account. The party stated that while he was using the ATM he felt the man push an object against his back, although the object was never seen, the party believed it to be a knife. The party stated that the male then told him that if he called the police things would get worse. In fear for his life the party left the bank and never called the police. The party who was away at the time of the incident arrived back home on August 18 and was then told what had occurred. The party contacted her bank who informed her that the account had been frozen due to the fraudulent check which was deposited. The check was removed from the account, a copy of said check, the Citibank account activity log, and photograph were taken as evidence and placed in a locker. Nothing more to report at this time.
8:22 p.m. — An officer reported to CVS Pharmacy on Boston Post Road, on report of a larceny that just occurred. Officers canvassed the area for the vehicle that the suspect was seen entering. The vehicle fled south on Boston Post Road towards the Bronx. The canvass revealed negative results. The suspect, wearing a black cap, a checkered shirt, and carrying a satchel, entered CVS at 8:15 p.m. He proceeded to the health and beauty aisle, where he took bottles of aveeno daily moisturizer from the shelf. He placed the bottles into his bag, then exited the CVS four minutes after his arrival. He was seen entering the passenger side of the afforemented vehicle. The vehicle was being operated by an unknown driver. The store manager was unable to get a description of said driver. A receipt for the stolen items, totalling $58.95, was printed, secured as evidence, and place in an evidence locker. The proper deposition was completed. Video surveillance of the incident will be provided to detectives upon request.
Aug. 21
6:45 p.m. — An officer was dispatched to a Verizon Wireless store on Boston Post Road. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the store owner who stated that he had an employee who he believes to have been stealing merchandise. He stated that on August 19 he noticed a suspicious transaction by this employee, in which three iPhones were purchased. The owner observed that the transaction was suspicious because the employee failed to obtain any ported information which is the standard practice for anytime a new line is purchased. The man stated that he then reviewed the camera footage and observed the employee actually placing one of the iPhones that were allegedly purchased by the party who was checking out, was placed inside the drawer by the employee, who subsequently left the store with the phone at the end of the shift. The man then reviewed other transactions by this employee in which he discovered two more fraudulent acts. The total value of the stolen merchandise totaled over $5,000. The store owner provided a copy of the invoice from the fraudulent transactions which were secured as evidence. A detective was notified. Surveillance video will be available for detectives at a later date.
Aug. 22
3:02 p.m. — A suspect man was arrested at the Verizon Wireless store on the Boston Post Road by an officer and transported to Pelham Manor police headquarters for arrest processing. After processing the man was transported to Pelham Town Court by this officer to be arranged before the judge. Assistant district attorney was contacted and provided a bail recommendation of $2500 cash or $5000 bond. Upon arrangement, the judge ordered the man held on $1000 cash or $2500 bond appearance. The man was subsequently transported by an officer to Pelham Manor Police Headquarters. Supporting deposition was obtained. The man was turned over to Pelham Town constables to be transferred to the Westchester County Jail.
7:05 p.m. — Multiple calls and reports were made regarding a house break-in and burglary at a residence on Jackson Avenue. Police arrived at the residence to discover a party of people shouting that an intruder was being held down inside the home. As an officer entered the house, he could hear the sounds of struggling coming from down the hall. The intruder was being held down, but released so that he could be taken under control by the present officers and taken into custody. In the sprawl to take down the intruder two injuries were obtained, and police called a medic to the scene. One of these parties was taken to a nearby hospital for further medical attention. It was evident that the incident had occurred in the kitchen as items were strewn about, there was broken glass, and blood smears were discovered. The victim of said incident stated that there was a gun threatened by the intruder, and his motive was to obtain money. A crime scene was established, and the proper processing and photo documentation was completed. Evidence was obtained. No further information available at this time.

Is released on recognition a new term? Isn’t it a release on your own recognizance (ROR)?
