PMHS senior Maria Comerford signs letter of intent to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Holy Cross
A stellar student, athlete, and friend, PMHS senior Maria Comerford does it all. Recently, Comerford signed her National Letter of Intent to play Division 1 lacrosse at College of the Holy Cross for the fall of 2020. Comerford, who also plays soccer and basketball for the Pelicans, was joined at the ceremony by Athletic Director Stephen Luciana, her basketball coach Tim Pitrulle, and family and friends.
The college process can be stressful, especially trying to find the balance in your location, academics, and sports. Comerford was recruited by the College of Holy Cross and it seems as if she found the perfect spot.
“I chose Holy Cross because it was the best fit for me all around. The academics, school size, location, and sports atmosphere were perfect for me and the team was super welcoming,” said Comerford.
Comerford is excited to continue playing at a high competitive level. Making new friends while still being able to focus on her studies is important. She hopes to major in political science and go the pre-law route.
Comerford displays her strong leadership in lacrosse, soccer and basketball. While being a three sport athlete is an extreme time commitment, it keeps her from procrastination and provides a schedule for Comerford.
“As a captain in soccer, b-ball [basketball], and lax [lacrosse] I am able to demonstrate strong leadership by always giving 100%, being motivational and positive towards my teammates and my coaches, and making sure the younger players feel welcome,” said Comerford.
One of the most vital aspects of a strong player is being a team player. Comerford helps her teammates and sets them up for success. Her drive and passion motivates other teammates from the field, to the court, to the classroom.
