PMHS boys’ swim team goes undefeated, winning first league title in program history
With a dominant regular-season record of 9 and 0, the PMHS boys’ varsity swim soared to victory in the Section 1 League 3 championship meet in Beacon.
The victory for the Pelicans came by about 30.5 points over a combined second place team of Peekskill Croton and Hendrick Hudson.
Junior Christopher Hartigan and seniors Lance Brady and Dylan Nordstrom led the way for the Pelicans through most of the meet.
Hartigan championed the 200 yard individual medley, besting his seed time by nearly 9 seconds, and placed 3rd in the 100 yard backstroke, shaving nearly 2 seconds off his seed time in that event. He qualified for Sectional Championships in each event.
Brady tied for second in the 50 yard freestyle, and took second in the 100 yard freestyle, managing to post Section Championship qualifying marks in each.
Nordstrom championed the 200 yard freestyle, qualifying for states as he beat the field by over 5 seconds, and also placed third in the 100-yard butterfly, qualifying for the Sectional Championship.
The three teamed up with junior Tommy Fontanella, who took 7th in the 100 yard freestyle, for a pair of relay events. The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Brady, Fontanella, Nordstrom, and Hartigan championed the event, besting the field by over 2 seconds. The same team also took second in the boys 400 yard freestyle relay, beating their seed time by over 12 seconds, and missing the title by just under a second.
Other individual point scorers include Andy Wang, Matthew Tiso, Connor Forrester, Jack Tirsch, Matthew Michailoff, Aidan Zusin, Robert Langerfeld, Nicholas Tiso and Daniel Matsyna. The 200 yard medley relay team also put up several points.
