Pelham Cares launches to let residents donate to businesses for first-responder meals
Pelham residents can donate to local businesses to fund delivery of meals to those working on the frontlines of the pandemic, under a collaborative program announced Thursday by the Junior League of Pelham, Pelham Together, the Pelham Civic Association and the Pelham Chamber of Commerce.
The Pelham Cares: Neighbor to Neighbor campaign is built around contributions from community members who want to help local restaurants and first responders.
“Pelham by nature is such a strong community and people want to help,” said Lisa Horten, president of the Junior League. “We want to provide a bit of hope in a time that feels kind of hopeless to be able to do something that’s impactful.”
Donations can be made at this link.
“When you donate to Pelham Cares: Neighbor to Neighbor, you’re supporting our local economy, keeping people employed and making a meaningful difference to those risking their well-being to keep us all safe and healthy,” said a joint email on the effort.
The meals will be donated to those working directly to combat Covid-19 in an effort to acknowledge the tremendous work and sacrifice that these workers are doing.
“It’s very encouraging to see that people are so supportive of one another in times of need,” Horten said. The campaign has already received numerous donations.
Aware of the health-related and economic repercussions of the pandemic, the four groups backing the Neighbor to Neighbor program seek to stimulate the local economy while also providing a service to those on the frontlines.
