Socially distanced primary election: Full results expected to take days

Amid Westchester’s move to phase three of reopening and nationwide discourse on race and policing, New York’s voters took to the polls Tuesday for their already delayed primary election.

Thousands of absentee ballots were collected to avoid crowding the polling places, and while partial results are expected to filter in after polls close at 9 p.m., full results and certainty on victors are not expected for several days.

Key races being voted on in Pelham include the Democratic primary for the 16th Congressional District, a race which has garnered nationwide attention, pitting establishment Rep. Eliot Engel against progressive challenger Jamaal Bowman, with Pelham resident Chris Fink also on the ballot, the Democratic primary for President, which has implications on the 2020 Democratic Party platform, and the Democratic primary for the 34th State Senate District, which features freshman Senator and PMHS alumna Alessandra Biaggi facing off against James Gisondi.

Westchester County results will be found here once polls close. Further coverage will come as the election results continue to be released in the coming hours and days.
