Manor Mayor Lapey responds to criticism village officials did not attend rally against Asian hate

To the editor:

Ms. Frost, thank you for taking the time to write on this important issue.

The Pelham Manor Board of Trustees and administration remain committed to supporting all residents, particularly our Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) friends and neighbors during this particularly challenging time. We have used our many communication platforms, as well as our village resources, to support and stand in solidarity with the AAPI community. Our direct outreach with AAPI business owners has been well received, and we are grateful for that. We will continue these efforts.

It seems that the Pelham United invitation to the rally was snagged in a privacy filter, which we have adjusted. As soon as this became clear, I immediately reached out to Pelham United and apologized. I also indicated that the board will clarify events publicly at our next board meeting.

We are aware of the upcoming AAPI Brave Space event and look forward to this and other programs to promote healing and understanding.

Many thanks for staying in touch.

Pelham Manor Mayor Jennifer Monachino Lapey
