Pelham varsity football team quarantined; season canceled
Some members of the Pelham varsity football team were exposed to Covid-19, and the team’s season is over.
Pelham was slated to play Lakeland last Saturday and to have a matchup with a team that had yet to be named this weekend. The shortened spring season already had playoffs cancelled by Section 1.
Prior to quarantining, Pelham was picking up momentum after they secured their first win against Sleepy Hollow, with a score of 35-21.
The Pelicans will finish the season with a record of one win and three losses, which would result in fourth place in the league standings. They started with three losses against Rye, Harrison and Eastchester.
Next season, Pelham will bring in an experienced team to play. With the graduation of three-year starting quarterback Carlo Volpe, the team looks to replace him in pre-season next year. Pelham will also lose key players at the linebacker and safety positions but will retain players responsible for much of their offensive production from the 2021 spring season.
