PMHS and PMS theater groups win 14 National Youth Arts Awards for 2019-2020 year
The Pelham Middle School Drama Club and Pelham Memorial High School’s Sock ‘n’ Buskin troop garnered 28 total awards and nominations at the 2019-2020 National Youth Arts Awards Eastern Regional Competition.
Sock ‘n’ Buskin won seven awards and received an additional 11 nominations for its production of “Almost, Maine.” The PMS Drama Club also won seven awards and received another three nominations for “Frozen Jr.”
“I loved playing Anna” in “Frozen Jr,” said Kady Finegan. “It was the last show I did before Covid, so it was nice to have a big show to look back on.” Finegan won an award for Outstanding Lead Performance in the junior division for her performance.
The Pelham theater groups have done exceptionally well at the NYAA’s in the past. The winners are chosen from nominations by a panel of more than 50 judges. Typically, the award ceremony is held live at the Riverdale YMCA in the Bronx, but there was no live ceremony this year. This was the 15th year for the NYAA’s.
