PMHS volleyball team victorious in quarterfinals, travels to Nyack Wednesday
The PMHS volleyball team handled the proverbial Cinderella team of the sectional tournament, defeating the 11th-seeded Lakeland Hornets 3-1 and moving onto the final four.
Lakeland had upset sixth-seeded Eastchester in the first round, and came into the match with momentum. They almost went the distance in the first set but eventually dropped it to the Pelicans 26-24. Pelham then won the second set, before suffering a setback in the third, and rallying to win the match in the fourth.
The game also saw the return of star junior Tiana Richardson, who had been out due to injury for the last month. She made a big impact in the limited minutes she saw.
Richardson stayed humble about her own performance and spoke about the team instead: “We played really well and our chemistry really helps us every game. Our semifinal game against Nyack will be tough, but I believe that if we play like we did today, anything is possible.”
The Pelicans will travel to face second-seeded Nyack in the semifinal on Wednesday, a team that Pelham lost to earlier in the regular season.
