PMHS girls basketball wins thriller over Westlake to notch second victory
The PMHS girls basketball team picked up a key 36-33 win over Westlake on Thursday. This pushed the girls to their second win of the year, after previously defeating Poughkeepsie in Pelham’s annual holiday tournament.
The game was close throughout and filled with runs as both teams went back and forth until the very end. Pelham led 13-9 after the first half, but Westlake took a 27-24 advantage heading into the fourth. Clutch threes from junior Katie Prisco and sophomore Mia Orlando pushed the Pelicans over the line for the narrow victory.
Prisco led the Pelicans with 11 points, followed by her sister Allie, who chipped in 10. Orlando added six more, while senior Caroline Garuffi had five. Finally, freshman Taylor Green added four off the bench and junior Grace Dunhill crashed the boards hard for Pelham.
The girls will look to keep their momentum rolling at North Rockland Saturday at 11 a.m.

Hi, noticed the newly completed highway Bridge is named for civil rights activists Michael Schwerner of Pelham.
Has a name been selected for the other bridge currently under construction?
Would suggest consideration of two former PMHS athletes Eugene Evans and Eli Page Howard. Both were top athletes at PMHS in early 1940s, Evans known as “Dippy” was a four sport star, Howard was called the “Touchdown Maker”. Both served in the then segregated Marine Corps, went on to play on National Championship football team at Morgan State in Baltimore, then graduated as Army officers thru newly formed ROTC Program.
Sadly both died in Army service Lt. Evans in Korea while out on a night mission and Lt. Col Howard when his helicopter was shot down in Vietnam.
They grew up in neighborhood this bridge will serve off Lincoln Ave.
Thanks for opportunity to suggest this idea.

The exuberant student fan section clinched it for the team!!! Those students were up against a tough visitor parent section!
