Pelham rowing wins STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in girls varsity four

PCRA Girl’s Varsity 4+ wins state championship

The Pelham Community Rowing Association girls varsity four boat won the New York State Championship in Saratoga Springs on Saturday.

The crew included PMHS senior and University of Pennsylvania commit Maya Spunberg, Pelham resident Claire Van Praagh, as well as Westchester’s Lindsay Brail, Calissa Snyder and Dana Shearer.

“We’re really happy to have crossed this off our bucket list,” Spunberg said. “It’s the culmination of years of hard work from all our athletes and coaches, and we’re very proud of the whole team’s efforts and results this weekend. We’re excited to shift our focus to training for Nationals!”

PCRA’s girls head coach is Rachel Gabbay.

The boat had a winning time of 5:54.008, topping other programs, including rivals RowAmerica Rye.

Winning states now qualify for the youth nationals in Sarasota, Florida, later this year.
