Former Pelham rec superintendent endorses Franklin Field pool idea

To the editor:

I was the  recreation superintendent in Pelham for 25 years.

In all that time, we recognized the need for a town swimming pool. Various proposals were made but never panned out for reasons usually related to location and/or money. What is currently proposed is long overdue. Now with the updated field at Prospect Hill, the added turf to the Glover Field complex and soon a new field at Hutchinson available, there is no reason to be concerned about playing field space at Franklin Field. The pool complex will take up less than 15% of Franklin Field and probably less than one tenth of 1% of all space available for field sports. And the pool would be available to all, even those who don’t play field sports or are unable to play them.
