‘Daisy Jones and the Six’ reaches ears and souls of viewers

“Daisy Jones and the Six” is an Amazon Prime Video series based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The show follows a fictional rock band in the 1970s as they deal with the trials and tribulations of fame. It is an emotional rollercoaster that will leave the audience on the edge of their seats. The characters’ relationships with each other are beautifully portrayed and the show perfectly captures the 1970s style and scene.

The band’s album “Aurora” was released March 3, 2023 on Spotify. It is a beautiful soft rock album with a mix of upbeat and slower-paced songs that officially became the first fictional band album to top the iTunes Charts. As Daisy Jones blazes through life, viewers and characters alike will fall in and out of love with her character. Based loosely on the band Fleetwood Mac, the show brings to life the magic of the 1970s music scene.

The show starts off with parallels between Daisy Jones’s (Riley Keough) and Billy Dunne’s (Sam Claflin) formative years. Daisy Jones was a young and wealthy girl growing up in Los Angeles. Her parents were constantly throwing parties and paid no attention to her. As a teenager, she escaped her parents’ inattentive upbringing by listening to music and visiting the Sunset Strip to listen to bands.

Inspired by the bands she listened to and her own experience with heartbreak, Jones begins writing songs. She changes her name from Margaret to the stage name Daisy Jones and pursues her dreams of becoming a singer-songwriter. Billy Dunne lives in Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania with his brother Graham Dunne (Will Harrison). He is part of a band called the Dunne Brothers, which consists of Graham, Billy, Warren Rojas ( Sebastian Chacon), and Eddie Rountree (Josh Whitehouse). They later discover Karen Sirko (Suki Waterhouse) who becomes the keyboardist for the band.

While most of the kids in Billy’s town are being recruited for war or going off to college, Billy and the rest of the Dunne Brothers decide to pursue music. The Dunne Brothers’ career takes them to California. When Teddy Price (Tom Wright), Billy’s and Daisy’s mutual music producer forces the pair to co-write the band’s second album and the Dunne Brothers transform into the band Daisy Jones and the Six, the two experience life-altering impacts that leave an imprint on many.

Daisy Jones and the Six is a story of love and loss. It is about finding out what matters most to you and cherishing it. The band members are forced to question what matters most to them-love and stability or celebrity status. Between Billy’s tumultous relationship with his wife Camila (Camila Morrone), several of the band members struggles with substance abuse, and the tension between the bandmates, Daisy Jones and the Six is never lacking in drama. I give the show 5 out of 5 stars. The characters’ chemistry, the 70s fashion, and the amazing soundtrack make this show a must-watch.
