Gerda Pintauro of Pelham Manor, NY passed away on January 8, 2024 in New Rochelle, NY. She was 100 years old. Gerda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Gerda valued family above all else and dedicated most of her life to her husband Frank (deceased) and her eight children.
Whether it was summers on the beach in Breezy Point, spring break road trips to Daytona or rushing the kids off to school in Pelham, Gerda was always dedicated to giving her love to her family. There was no sacrifice she wouldn’t make for her loved ones.
Gerda was born in Bremen, Germany and emigrated to the Bronx in 1926 with her parents, William and Marie Green. They fled the turmoil in their home country to find a better life in America. Gerda finished top of her class at Evander Childs High School in the Bronx. She met her lifetime love, Frank Pintauro and they were married at St. Agnes Church in Manhattan in 1942 before Frank, a US Army Captain, was sent off to serve his country as a physician in World War II. Later in life, Gerda returned to school to obtain her Bachelors Degree in Special Education from College of New Rochelle. She pursued this field to help in the raising of her youngest daughter Lora Ann who is Down’s Syndrome.
Gerda is survived by her eight children: William, Lucia, Frank, Marie, Robert, John, James and Lora Ann and her grandchildren Sarah, Christopher, Stephanie, Michael (deceased), Lisa, Frank, Alexandra, Kate, Sara, Thalia, Aline, Kevin, Robert, KellyAnn, Elena, John, Brianna, Justin, Jillian, Rachael and her great grandchildren Jack, Sophia, Emery, Gavin, Brendan, Sawyer, Isabel, Wyatt, Claire, Vincent, Joseph, Michael, Frank, Fiona, Arlo, Michael, Remi, Finn, Theodore.
Gerda was the matriarch of the huge Pintauro clan and was the glue that bound them together. She will be dearly missed however the family finds great comfort in the memories as well as the wisdom she imparted upon them.
A celebration of Gerda Pintauro will take place on Thursday, January 11th, 2024, between 4pm and 8pm at the Pelham Funeral Home located on 64 Lincoln Avenue in Pelham, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 12th at 10am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Pelham, NY followed by Internment at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Rochelle, NY.
