To the editor:
I am thrilled that Westchester County Executive George Latimer is running for New York’s 16th congressional district. If you’re a registered Pelham Democrat, please make a clear voting plan and support Latimer for the House of Representatives on June 25.
Latimer is a caring, ethical, progressive lawmaker and a person who as he says, has helped “lead the effort to make Westchester, a formerly solid Republican county, into a blue firewall that has withstood multiple red waves in recent years.”
I can’t wait to elect Latimer. Since 2021, we’ve been represented by Jamaal Bowman, who actually represents no one except himself.
Jamaal Bowman:
Voted against the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill ($100 billion for New York), which garnered bipartisan support in the House and Senate. This is a law to fix decaying infrastructure in Pelham and New York cities and the state, including sewers and drains. We have a serious flooding problem here in Pelham. What congressman would vote against his own party’s attempt to build up necessary infrastructure that his own community needs?
Set off a false fire alarm in a House office building in a foolish and dangerous attempt to delay a vote. The congressman representing us should not be a law breaker.
Voted against the Antisemitism Awareness Act and has done nothing to show support for his young Jewish constituents being targeted by antisemites. As a Pelham parent, I am dismayed by this brushoff of youth who want to rely on their congressman as a leader and ally.
Posted conspiracy theories about 9/11 on his blog while serving as a New York City school principal. This is not the person I want representing my district.
George Latimer is the polar opposite of Jamaal Bowman. Latimer primarily wants to serve us, his constituents, by getting us the infrastructure we need to stop flooding and the support we need to live safely as Americans, no matter what our race, ethnicity, religion or gender. I am excited by his support for racial, gender and marriage equality, a woman’s right to choose, gun control and safer streets, and of course, infrastructure. As Westchester County executive, he has a proven track record of getting infrastructure projects that benefit us taken care of.
I’ve never been so grateful to a candidate for running, and I hope you will join me in voting for George Latimer for congress on June 25. Thank you!
