Pelham native Kate Douglass and her team kicked off the Olympics strong Saturday, winning silver in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay. The USA posted a time of 3:30.20, just shy of gold-medalist Australia by 0:01.28.
Douglass was the U.S. lead-off swimmer, posting a time of 52.98 seconds. All of Douglass’s teammates posted similar times.
Douglass, a 2019 graduate of PMHS, is now projected to compete in a total of seven events in the Paris Olympics, compared to one during the 2021 Tokyo games, where she won bronze. Her next event is on Wednesday in the 200m breaststroke heat and—if she qualifies— semifinal.
