Pelham Middle School 6th graders kicked off their science unit on sound with a visit from Dr. Kim Riegel, an Assistant Professor at Farmingdale State College and Pelham resident. Dr. Riegel spoke to the students about resonance and demonstrated the impact several variables can have on waves and frequencies.
Dr. Riegel’s primary field of research is in acoustics and noise control. She has a PhD and Masters of Engineering in Acoustics from Pennsylvania State University and a B.A. in Physics from Vassar College. Dr. Riegel is also the President and Founder of MINDSET, a Pelham-based nonprofit that seeks to increase students’ participation in STEM through holistic education experiences and meaningful partnerships between educators, students and community members.
Thank you Dr. Riegel and 6th grade science teachers Maria Buckley and Jessica Constantine for organizing this assembly!
