The PMHS boys varsity swim team won its first meet against Yorktown on Thursday by a score of 54-38. The victory came after an 0-3 start to the season with losses to Arlington, Eastchester and New Rochelle-Bronxville.
Some highlights of the meet included first place finishes by Evan Kaplan in the 100-yard breaststroke, Bobby Langerfeld in the 100-yard butterfly, Carlos Chavez in the 500-yard freestyle and Gianluca Polenzani in the 100-yard backstroke. The team also took home firsts in three relays, the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle.
“After starting off 0-3, seeing our team pull off a win really helped our spirits as a whole,” said Langerfeld, “We’ve shown what we’re capable of and now it’s about staying focused, working hard and pushing even further.”
Coming off a big first win, the team looks to continue their success today at Lakeland High School.
