A pipe burst in Pelham Middle School at around 7:40 a.m. Monday, forcing the school to close for the day.
Middle schoolers already in school at the time were relocated to the gym. Pelham Memorial High School students also in the gym had to return to their building. PMHS remained open on Monday.
Parents rushed to the middle school to pick up their children after they received district email and text messages at 8:11 a.m that said the school would have to close for the day “due to an emergency plumbing issue.” For a time, the line of parents waiting to pick up their kids wrapped around the building.
