Huguenot Nursery School put a new twist into their annual art auction this year to renovate the Rainy Day Room, a space dear to students and alumni.
The Parents Committee, led by Amy Hand, had students create art as usual, but then instead of auctioning the art as single pieces through the Pelham Art Center, the pieces were sent to Square 1 Art, a company that transforms the works into different types of merchandise such as mugs or ornaments.
“Another parent committee member had a friend at another school who did it, and we started looking into it,” Hand said. “It was perfect timing.”
After commissioning Square 1 Art to create products with the student designs, the Parents Committee filled the Rainy Day Room, displaying mugs next to the original pieces of art, all available for purchase by family and friends.
When the school’s supporters attended the event Feb. 8, the event saw much success, as all proceeds are being allocated for an exciting renovation of the Rainy Day Room.
The majority of the planning for the Rainy Day Room renovation has been done by parents, with the concept (pictured) being completed by Hand’s friend and coworker, who is also a mom at HNS.

“We have a lot of support to get this done,” Hand said. “We are going to do it this summer, which is a big goal, but I am confident we can do it.”
Hand added, “It brings me joy to see these events be successful, and that’s what I really love, to be a part of something that is growing and making an impact on the community.”
Next up for Huguenot Nursery School is the vehicle fair May 17, where the Parents Committee hopes to continue its efforts towards the Rainy Day Room renovation.
