The PMHS girls lacrosse team defeated Hastings 16-2 on Friday, a big victory that followed a 19-13 win over Pearl River on March 27 in the season opener.
Junior Arden Keough was dominant on the field, tallying an impressive three goals and two assists against Hastings. Keough has set the tone for how to be an aggressive, controlled and impactful player. Underclassmen freshmen Colleen Sheehy and Zoe Helmers have been standouts for the team as well, scoring two goals and one goal, respectively. Sophomores Hannah Kindig and Callie Pascale also scored.
“I felt that the game on Friday went very well because we learned how to work for each other to get the win,” said Lily Roberts, a junior on the team. “It was also for a great cause.”
The match was sponsored by the Anthony Senerchia Jr. ALS Foundation, a charity that funds ALS research and supports families going through financial hardships because a member has the disease. The foundation is named after late Pelham resident Anthony Senerchia Jr., who died from ALS. Spectators donated to the organization virtually through a QR code and at the game.
Keough said the team does a lot of team bonding off the field to strengthen their playing during games. “We have a team dinner before every game to help us bond together and prepare ourselves for game day,” she said.
Over spring break, the team will head to Syracuse to watch Syracuse take on Boston College in women’s lacrosse.
“I’m really excited because it will be a great bonding experience for the team.” said Anna Roberts, a junior.
